Deer River man sentenced for criminal vehicular operation and assault on White Earth

A Deer River man was sentenced to more than 13 years in prison for seriously injuring people when he ran them over with his car on the White Earth Reservation.

According to the US Attorney’s Office, 35-year-old Kevin Doerr was driving a Chevy Monte Carlo erratically through the Elbow Lake Village in April 2020, with callers reporting he was trying to run people over and chasing people through the neighborhood.

When law enforcement arrived, they found a chaotic scene with neighbors outside with badly injured victims.

Doerr was taken into custody and the victims were airlifted to a hospital.

“Mr. Doerr is a danger to the community, his actions caused pain and suffering for both the victims and for the White Earth community,” said Acting U.S. Attorney W. Anders Folk Thursday.

“I hope today’s sentence offers a sense of relief and an opportunity to heal.”

Doerr was convicted by a grand jury last May and sentenced in St. Paul on Thursday.
