Beltrami County Historical Society is pleased to announce the beginning of an exciting lineup of fall programs.
Registration spots are still available for a Whisk Broom-making program with instructor Shannon Lucas Westrum on Saturday, October 2, from 1pm – 4pm at the History Center on 130 Minnesota Ave S. in Bemidji. All supplies will be provided for participants to complete a small whisk broom. Registration is limited to 10 participants and limited to adults (some hand and upper body strength is required). This program is generously funded through an Arts Project Grant from the Region 2 Arts Council.
The Historical Society is also excited to present the workshop series “Creating an Oral History of Your Family”, offered October 19, 26 and November 2 and 16 from 6pm – 8pm at the History Center. Instructors and authors Cecelia McKeig and Sue Bruns will provide guidance, tips, and practice for you to capture those stories from family members, friends, even people you’ve never met before. Sessions will focus on gathering background information, formulating different types of interview questions, conducting comfortable conversational interviews that encourage interviewees to share information, and various ways to write and present the stories you gather. Registration is $15 for the entire series; the class is limited to 15 participants.
