A Nashwauk man was sentenced to almost 9 years in prison for criminal vehicular homicide and operation, in connection with the death of a toddler and the injuries to a teenager.

According to a release from Itasca County Attorney Matti Adam, 40-year-old Jake Place fled the scene of a hit and run crash with two pedestrians, a 2-year-old and the child’s 16-year-old aunt, on August 1, 2019.
