UPDATED: Police Officers’ Memorial set for May 19

The Bemidji Police Department and the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office are co-hosting a Police Officers’ Memorial Service on Thursday, May 19.

According to a release, Congress authorized President Kennedy’s designation of May 15 as National Police Officers’ Memorial Day in 1962.

This year, May 11-May 17 is recognized as National Police Week.

The memorial service will be held at Bemidji Fire Station 1 on 5th Street beginning at 5:30 p.m. for all area law enforcement agencies.

The memorial was initially planned to be at the Courthouse Lawn but due to the weather, will be moved indoors to the Fire Hall.

Officers killed in the line of duty from 2019 through 2021 will be memorialized.

All law enforcement and their families in attendance would be honored to be joined by the public.
